COVID-19 Pandemic and Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria

Abstract

This study shows that, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria witnessed an upsurge in cases of gender-based violence due to the temporary inability of victims to escape abusive partners. As a result, the study recommends prioritizing the protection of vulnerable groups such as women and girls in social emergencies. Advocacy on the part of stakeholders can help to sensitize the populace on women’s rights and reduce gender-based violence.
